SCMLD is a unique institute which nurtures Business and Executive Leadership. Its grooming, content, context, processes and outcomes are beyond any conventional management program. Its emphasis is on doing and learning rather than only knowing. SCMLD came into being by the financial contribution and emotional alignment of, and persuasion by, the former students of the undersigned. The undersigned was the director of SCMHRD from its concept & inception in 1993, to April 2004. The persistent urging of hundreds of his former students inspired the undersigned to continue the journey of Human Resource Development by starting SCMLD. And thus SCMLD came into being in a matter of 40 days, with its first batch, in July 2004.
SCMLD selects its students mainly from non metros and tier 2 and tier 3 cities/ towns. They neither belong to the cream nor are they the most brilliant. They are generally from ordinary background and are attitudinally highly positive. They are processed to work hard (10-12-14 hrs. a day) to upgrade themselves in the organizations by delivering extraordinary performance. They are groomed to work with ownership, commitment and owning up. We have endeavored to imbibe in them the principle of "work is worship". Also inspired them to follow the SCMLD dictum that “until the purpose of work is delivered, the work is not considered done” as we believe that doing any activity without its purpose and the outcome to be delivered is not WORK. SCMLD students can adapt quickly & understand realities realistically. The conversion time to be 'work ready' will be minimal.
The values of “being responsible” and that “the customer and organization first, subordinates next and self last” have been seeded in each one of them. SCMLD's grooming processes lay great emphasis on honesty, integrity, leadership habits & discipline inculcation, hard work, 100% in efforts and subordination to the purpose of organization & its ethos without being personally egoistic, as we are convinced that follower-ship of these will only lead to organizational leadership at the market place. The growth of SCMLD's alumni in general, in the corporate world, since passing out of the first batch in 2006 has been extra ordinary and inspiring to continue our journey.
In our developmental efforts, we measure on fortnightly basis, the evolution of our students in terms of knowledge, skill sets, interpersonal behavior, action orientation, applied insights, authenticity & integrity, deadline orientation, behaviors when they are on their own etc., by way of an elaborate, continuous and transparent process following a nearly 360 degree appraisal process. The CV format (on pages 16 & 17) which a student has to fill up for submission to campus recruiters and the sample sheets of academic CGPAs (A & B), Professional Evaluation Index (PEI- Application Orientation), Authenticity / Integrity Index, Panel of External Consultants evaluation, Action/Execution Orientation (ECGPA) and the overall Action Leadership Index being graded A, B, C, D, E etc, are indicative of the importance we attach in inculcating /excavating these qualities, attributes and values.
As we know that different people are differentially abled and endowed, the above evaluation is not to bracket them but to hold a mirror to each one of them so that they evolve themselves beholding these universal values which are most important for sustainable business success and for leading the way. Shortcuts may bring short term success which is perishable. Therefore we practice zero tolerance on shortcuts. Hence the indices and grades are indicative of their levels of development as we envisage. They may have many talents which we have not seen or evaluated in our context and objective. In the CV format they have their self rating as well, on different parameters which are essential to be effective. In short, we focus on strengthening the roots so that they grow strong and deliver. Hence our uncompromising insistence on integrity, values, ethics and execution.
Thus, by considering SCMLD in your campus recruitment program, you should be able to get well initiated youngsters who would be cost effective and flexible to adapt easily to organizational cultures. They are toughened up to work 7 days a week, 365 days a year. They have been trained to work stress free, in stressful environments.
