Placements
Three batches (2004-06, 2005-07, 2006-08) of SCMLD's then PGDM programme passed out with 100% placements and 20 opted to be entrepreneurs. From PGPEL 2007-09 batch, out of 155 students 7 became entrepreneurs, 2 opted out of placement & 142 were placed despite the economic downturn. Of the batches PGPEL 2008-09 / APEL 2009-10, out of 225 students 217 were placed, 2 were placed on projects, 4 became entrepreneurs and 2 remained unplaced because of their location preferences. Of the batches PGPEL 2009-10 / APEL 2010-11, out of 287 students 279 were placed, four students opted to be entrepreneurs & four students opted out of placements.
From the current batch of PGPEL 2010 -11/ APEL 2011-12 passing out in April 2012, Out of 181 students 115 are placed so far and 65 are yet to be placed and 1 student is on project.
Like different individuals are differently abled for corporate employment, one has to accept the salaries according to ones learning, potential, capacity to deliver and so on. One has to deserve before one demands. Grooming Processes and opportunities are same. It depends upon each one to partake and assimilate it. They will emerge employable & entrpreneurial only if they are learners and challenge themselves and change, to be intellectually, attitudinally, functionally and organisationally fit. SCMLD will provide learning inputs, processes and facilitation for positive change and to be competent. Students will have to put in determined efforts, learn and change. Those who believe campuses are entertainment resorts with unbridled so called freedom as adults, please do not apply. Sincere students serious in own development by working with absolute dedication and integrity should only apply. Those who are averse to reading, field assignments, company visits, business development roles, travelling etc. also should not apply.
SCMLD strives to place its students according to their aptitude / interest and preferences / potential and capacity to perform rather than on the basis of how much is the CTC, so that they stay and work. Therefore the unplaced necessarily do not mean that they are less fit or less than the placed ones. By convocation, we hope, every one will be placed.
For all the unplaced students, special workshops by practising industry professionals and language training are being imparted now, although everything was continuously done throughout. They did not change as required. Many took things lightly. Having not placed, now they are putting in extra efforts to read, do and learn. Hence the effect of the special workshops has been spectacular. Further, many students have special preferences as to place, sector, company etc. and therefore did not sit for interviews. Similarly many students did not sit for insurance sector jobs although salaries were more than Rs.3 lakh p.a. plus incentives. Because of the above, this year SCMLD lost more than 1600+ vacancies which were available to these students. That is, bringing companies / opportunities to campus and providing inputs and putting in grooming efforts etc. SCMLD will do; learning and developing, and snatching the opportunities students must do.
Some campus companies that offered salaries ranging from Rs.3 lakh p.a. to Rs.7 lakh p.a. could not pick up anyone due to lack of reading and being lazy as regards acquiring communication skills and thinking skills etc. Students lost many golden chances. Based on this we are also changing our teaching – learning facilitation process. Wherever we lack expertise we are embarking on outsourcing to ensure that students are provided the best an institute can within its means, including expert faculty from all over India. Concentrating fully on students’ development many things are being outsourced.
Also, please note that most of the companies do not shortlist students at the bio-data stage itself if their 10th, 12th and Graduation marks overall are less than 60% in each although they may be good otherwise. Many students loose out because they do not partake of the offerings at the institute. Many good and wonderful students loose out because they are poor in communication in English. All these can be corrected if one is determined, realistic and can work unflinchingly to overcome such weaknesses. Nothing is impossible if one makes the impossible possible. Thus many students with less than 50% in Graduation, 10th, 12th etc. and even those who are not good in English picked up the best jobs. But many who are convent educated have lost lots of opportunities. SCMLD’s inputs are plenty to make the ordinary extra ordinary. But students must ingest it. If not, nothing can be done.
Therefore, the message to applicants: If you cannot learn and keep evolving day by day to be a best fit employee / entrepreneur by letting go of your old unprofessional and dysfunctional habits & attitudes and / or cannot study and do things – assignments, fieldworks, surveys, company visits etc., please do not waste time, energy & resources. Placement will not happen by just being at SCMLD.
Please take an informed and prudent decision, as you know yourself better than we do. Hence this openness and absolute transparency.
