Cost Benefit Information
SCMLD's fees are cost based and not profit oriented. It is run by a “not for profit society” and Trust - the Sadhana Educational & Empowerment Foundation.
For students it is the lowest in cost and highest in inputs for holistic development. All transactions are through bank only. Anybody can check the accounts. Students can audit accounts, exam dept., library & all processes implementation and all the promises in the prospectus and directly communicate to the Board of Governance with a copy to the director of the institute.
Any surplus amount left in the students’ special development contribution fund is returned to the students. This fund is to meet the expenses of all the unconventional offerings of SCMLD like study materials and so on… yoga, pranayama, vipassana, outbound, uniforms, celebrations, placement services, seminars, visits, surveys, medical insurance, life insurance, personal copies of text books, special study materials and so on… Any surplus left out of the tuition fee goes towards creating better amenities for students and infrastructure for the institute.
Bridge Programme cost: For students with 50% to 64.99% score in entrance: 30days Rs.32,000/-. For APEL direct entry students it is Rs.32,000/- and they have to attend the PGPEL Bridge Programme. These fees includes boarding, lodging, service tax, rent, uniform, insurance, outbounds, workshop etc. Add this applicable amount to your bank loan application.
Service Tax: We have raised our objections to Service Tax being charged from students, with the Commissioner, Central Excise. Our claim for refund of it which we paid in 2004 - 05 is now with the Tribunal in Mumbai. For 2005 - 06 we were ordered to pay Rs.30 lac as service tax and another Rs.30 lac as penalty. We have paid the tax.
Refund claim for the tax paid and appeal for penalty waiver are also filed. We are of the considered view that we qualify to be exempted. However students being the recipient of the service are to pay if applicable by law. Until our claim is finally decided by the competent authorities or disposed in our favour, students need to pay the tax @10.30% or as applicable. Therefore you must pay which is our duty to collect and pay to the government.
The Alumni fund is not for day to day operations of the institute. It is exclusively for expenses related to alumni meets, updation, communication, relationship building and maintenance of its secretariate and allied activities / aspects which together cannot exceed 40% of the collection. 60% will form part of the endowment corpus for establishing “Alumni Chair” and meeting other institutional commitments. This fund may be utilised as reserve for meeting the requirements of AICTE / UGC etc. as and when required. It may also be used to obtain bank loans for infrastructural development.
Accommodation and Mess (Hostel & Mess)
Excepting Pune local students residing with parents within a radius of 5 kms from campus, it is essential that all students stay together in the hostels. Therefore, SCMLD has arranged residential accommodation in separate buildings for girls and boys, 10-15 minutes walking distance from the campuses. This arrangement is to look after all students who are not staying with their parents. It is also to supervise and monitor their behaviour, health and welfare besides providing a social / team learning atmosphere and good habit forming routines. Students' accommodation fund includes rent for the building, 24 hours security services, cold and hot water facilities, house keeping of the premises, consumables & implements, maintenance, rent for buildings & furnitures and other administrative expenses including wardens’ remuneration etc. all at actuals.
Individual paying guest accommodations do not ensure discipline, punctuality, sanitation or hygiene. It will also add to students' conveyance cost. It will put students into undue inconvenience as institute’s grooming processes starts from 6 - 7 am and goes up to almost 8.00 - 9.00 pm with sufficient free time on campus in between. Therefore it is important for students to be on campus / nearer the campus. No exemption from any process will be given due to distance from residence to campus and vice-versa.
Every inmate of the hostel is provided with a cot, steel cupboard, bed, table and a chair in the room besides other amenities. Every room is shared by 2-3 or more students as the size of the room can comfortably accommodate. Hostel code of conduct & rules are to be signed by each student availing of the facility.
With respect to the mess facility, the institute oversees the quality of food, the hygiene and its delivery on time at the institute premises so that students need not worry about their breakfast, lunch and dinner. Institute ensures that it is wholesome, nutritious and also tasty. This fund includes all expenses related to its equipments, administration, other overheads and price of food to be paid to the caterer / contractor, the VAT and other taxes, and so on.
The accommodation and mess fund contributions are not on per month basis. It is for the whole academic year. These two services are outsourced on an academic year basis and on particular number of students. Therefore it is essential that all students are to be mess members as well, except Pune local students. In short, instead of students individually running around hunting for accommodation and food- which in most cases are unhygienic, SCMLD facilitates these auxiliary services so that students can concentrate on their learning activities without hassles and anxiety. Providing tea/thin milk and biscuits between 10:15 am & 10:30 am and tea / snacks etc. between 4:00 pm & 4:20 pm are also being thought off. This will prevent students going out for smoking and wasting time.
All these are at actual cost basis. A lot of accounts work and staff time are involved in procuring and managing these facilities. 15% administration charges may be charged from this fund, as stated earlier. Mess & hostel charges are to be paid to Sadhana Educational and Empowerment Foundation, the parent body of SCMLD.
