SCMLD's orgin is unique. Its focus, processes, and contents of its programmes are not as they are in the conventional educational system.Its mission is to develop action-leaders of extra-ordinary tenacity and stamina to make things happen as they should be.

SCMLD is a learning centre with emphasis on learning by doing, exploring, experiencing and realizing. Its processes stretch and challenge its students for them to emerge to their best. It re-engineers the mind, erases dysfunctional attitudes, sharpens intellect, unleashes the embedded intelligence and grinds out the opaqueness to bring the brilliance out of every student. It inculcates habits for excellence and strives to develop conviction in students to be ethics and values driven in life and careers. It is not a teaching institute but a coaching, mentoring and grooming centre- a transformational institution to make the ordinary to be extra-ordinary in action-execution / implementation. SCMLD beleives that knowing does not guarantee doing, nor doing guarantees performance. Action leadership is what is lacking in the country. The conventional educational system creates knowledgable people, but most of them lacking skills, competencies and the will know-how to execute. Qualifications, jargons, and packaging are no substitute for doing / action. At the same time organizations all over, are hunting for people with vision, passion, commitment andcompetence endowed with the will and resolve to make things happen by tenacious execution / implementation. Hence, SCMLD's emphasis on EXECUTION LEADERSHIP. The name of the institution - "Sadhana Centre for Management & Leadership Development" signifies this emphasis. Although, the earlier programme of SCMLD was titled as PGDM, its focus has been more of action-orientation without diluting the conceptual / foundational inputs. It was never a conventional management programme nor it will ever be. SCMLD is a centre for leadership development - action leadership.

SCMLD's origin, intent and purpose being as above and the fact that there are more than 350 autonomous institutions of various shapes, colour and purpose exists in India.In November 2005, AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) had notified that all technical education programmes including PGDMs needed its approval. Although the SCMLD Programme was not a conventional PGDM in its context, purpose, process and methods, SCMLD also applied to AICTE for approval, in March 2006 and the applications are pending with AICTE. As per its norms, SCMLD is defficient on one aspect, i.e not having "own building". It needs time, money and other resources.SCMLD is not a capitation institute either.

In any case since SCMLD’s programme is a very unique, unconventional & action leadership oriented and the unique features and grooming processes of SCMLD are unparalleled and the commonality was only the title of the programme and certain universal conceptual inputs, to respect the law as it is, we have re-invented our programme as Post Graduate Programme in Executive Leadership, true to its intent and purpose. Meanwhile, a Public Interest Litigation came up in the Hon'ble High Court of Bombay in March 2006, with respect to 112 institutes in the state of Maharashtra without approval from AICTE. The Hon'ble High Court directed the Government of Maharashtra to take appropriate action under and in accordance with the law. In that process, after detailed assessment of our uniqueness, quality, history, purpose and our grooming processes, the Government of Maharashtra has accepted the SCMLD programme with the change in the nomenclature namely Post Graduate Programme in Executive Leadership and under this the batch 2007-09 will pass-out in April 2009.The programmes now on offer are :

1. Post Graduate Programme in Executive Leadership(June 2008- April 2009) for Graduates.

and

2. Advanced Programme in Executive Leadership(June 2008-April 2009) for Post-Graduates or Graduates with minimum 2 years of work-experience in executive cadre.

Students enrolling for the first programme (Serial No. 1 above) now, have an option to enroll for the advanced programme in June 2009. Those who complete both the programmes will be certified accordingly - cerifications for basic as well as advanced.

SCMLDs focus is to coach/ mentor / train people for enabling them to, be employable in the private sector or emerge as entrepreneurs. Its programmes are not affliated to or approved / recognized by,any University / Government or Statutory bodies. SCMLD does its own certification on sucessful completion of the programmes by students.
